SECURITY
What are your current security measures?

Your safety and security is our top priority. Working together with local and national authorities, security measures at our Arenas are under constant review to ensure that they remain effective and proportionate.

We have comprehensive and integrated overt security measures in place including; tailored venue search operations, strategically placed security personnel, multi-purpose dog response teams and intelligence led CCTV monitoring.

In addition, extensive covert security measures are also in place, so whilst you may not see all operational security activity, you should be assured that activity is on-going, often behind the scenes.
We work in partnership with West Midlands Police, who often deploy a variety of resources to work alongside our teams.

These controls and other protective measures are in place across all NEC Group venues, throughout event periods and at all other times.

What can you do to help?

  • We encourage you to arrive to the venue as early as possible, to allow more time for enhanced security checks.

A full list of prohibited items can be viewed in the FAQ tab: ’What items are not permitted to be brought into the venue’

  • Our security teams work hard to keep you safe, please be patient and help them by co-operating with their requests
  • Customers who make any inappropriate comments to staff or other event goers, even in jest, will be refused entry
  • As always, please remain vigilant and if something doesn’t look right, you should speak to staff or the Police who will take appropriate action.
Will I be searched?

In the interests of safety and security, a search will take place.  Please allow additional time for this process.

The security search process is a condition of entry.  Any refusal or the use of abusive, threatening or discriminatory remarks, including comments relating to weapons or explosives will result in access being refused.

How will queuing be affected?

We encourage you guys to arrive as early as possible to allow time for enhanced security checks when heading into the venue.
We have additional security measures in place including visible armed police and dog patrols throughout event periods and at all venues to ensure you guys feel relaxed and comfortable whilst at the show. Also, just a heads up, searches will be carried out throughout the day and evening at all sites, so be prepared if one of the guys ask.

I was at an event recently and my bag wasn’t checked?

Bag searching is just one of many components which go into our security measures but for obvious reasons, we don’t go into specific security details for individual shows as this is potentially detrimental to these processes.

Also, just a heads up, searches will be carried out throughout the day and evening on all our sites, so be cooperative if one of the teams ask.

BAG POLICY

Ensuring the safety of our customers and colleagues is our number one priority, and one we take very seriously.

We continually review our security measures to ensure that they remain effective and keep people safe, which is why we introduced a bag policy across our venues.

All bags are searched prior to entry; therefore, to help speed things up and ensure your safety, we'd prefer if you didn't bring a bag to our venue. If you need to bring one, it needs to meet the following criteria:

  • No bigger than A4 in size (21cm x 30cm x 19cm)
  • Maximum of 2 compartments
  • Rucksacks are not permitted

As well as ensuring your safety, the bag policy allows us to search quickly and with minimal contact.

There are no exceptions to our bag policy, so if you have brought a bag larger than what’s permitted you will not be allowed to enter with it.

If you arrive with an over-sized bag/luggage and are unable to leave it anywhere else away from the venue, then you may have the option of leaving it in our external Bag Store (subject to full search) for a charge of £15 per item payable by card/phone only – no cash. (Please note that the Bag Store may not be available on every event.  We will endeavour to update the relevant Event page when it will not be in operation).

We appreciate these are tough measures, but they have been put in place to protect you.

We strongly advise that you arrive at the venue as early as possible, to allow more time for enhanced security checks.

AGE POLICY

For all events at Utilita Arena Birmingham children under 14 years of age must be accompanied by a responsible adult aged 18+ with a valid ticket to enter the venue.

On applicable shows, the ‘Standing Area’ of the arena bowl is not suitable for anyone under 14 years of age and we advise booking seated tickets if your party includes anyone under the age of 14. Please note, the venue reserves the right to remove or reseat (if possible) any child in the standing area who appears to be under 14 for safety reasons.

Due to the sound levels experienced during an event, the venue recommends that children under 5 should not attend concerts or events other than those specifically aimed at younger visitors, i.e. children’s shows.

Generally, children under the age of 1 that are attending a children’s show and sitting on an adult’s knee, do not need a ticket. However, we advise you to please check the event details prior to booking Please note though that any interruption caused by young children/babies that directly affects other members of the audience may result in you being asked to leave the performance area.

Certain shows will also have their own specific age restrictions. Please check the relevant event page before booking to avoid any disappointment.

ASK FOR CLIVE/ANGELA

Here at Utilita Arena Birmingham, we know how important the environment inside our venue is to you lovely fans. So, we have taken an extra safety precaution by introducing “Ask for Angela”, a safeguarding campaign that helps people who feel like they’re in an unsafe situation during a night out.

Whether you feel intimidated or find yourself in a difficult situation, our colleagues will be on hand to act quickly and discreetly to support anyone who asks for “Angela”.

This isn’t the only ‘Ask For’ campaign we run, though. If you’ve been to Utilita Arena Birmingham over the last few years, you may have noticed “Ask for Clive” posters and screens on display throughout our venue. These are to encourage customers who see any discrimination or abuse of LGBTQ+ people to report it to staff by discreetly communicating the codeword “Clive”.

ZERO TOLERANCE

We operate a ‘zero-tolerance’ approach on abuse of venue team members. Any type of aggressive behaviour aimed towards our colleagues, be it violent or abusive, will not be tolerated and may result in you being removed from the venue.

From event security and ticketing to food & beverage and merchandise, our teams on the ground work incredibly hard to ensure you have the best possible live event experience. The minimum we expect in return, therefore, is for our staff to be treated with common courtesy, decency and respect.
